Mantus & Asia Balcius

18th October 2014.

Mantus hails from Lithuania, whilst his wife Asia is Polish. They have a young daughter, Mia. Their wedding was a small intimate wedding with around 15 guests. It took place at the beatiful St Marie's Catholic Church in Southport. The church is home to a beautiful piece of artwork hanging above the Altar, depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Both Mantus' and Asia's mothers flew in for the ceremony, though neither spoke any English. I found it amusing being referred to as 'Col-een' instead of Colin by the two mothers.

Bride Asia used a Polish haidresser/make up artist for her pre wedding pampering session. which I was asked to attend. You will see some of the photographs from this session in the slideshow. It is traditional in Eastern Europe for the Parents to prepare the Wedding Breakfast for their children. This was a mixture of both Traditional Eastern European and a typical English buffet. The Bride prepared herself and baby Mia in private, whilst I photographed a few of the small details, not easy in a very small flat. Then it was time for another Eastern European custom. The Bride and Groom kiss a Crucifix. In this instance, the mother's held the Cross up to the lips. It is seen as a kind of blessing for the marriage and is considered lucky.

The Church was literally 5 yards over the road from the couple's flat. The service was a traditional English Catholic service, and the priest, Father John has a lovely manner, and he conducted the service in a gentle unassuming style. Forty Minutes (and many photographs) later Mr. & Mrs. Balcius exited the church to warm sunshine for the formal photographs. Another Polish traditition is that of presenting the new Bride with flowers after the ceremony, which you will see in the slideshow. There was no evening reception so my duites finished after the formal photos, with my last shot being of Mantus carrying his Bride Asia up the stairs. I thoroughly enjoyed Photographing Asia & Mantus Special Day. Click an image in the slideshow to view a larger version, and use the arrow keys to navigate.
